The boy who danced in the world's No. 1 YouTube video 'Pinkfong Baby Shark Dance' will return as a singer after 10 years.
According to NEWSIS on the 10th, The Pinkfong Company announced that it will release Baby Shark Boy's first digital single 'WAVE' at 12 p.m. on the 20th.
Park Geon-ryeong, known as Baby Shark Boy, who is releasing this album, appeared in the 'Pinkfong Baby Shark Dance' video released in 2016 and became known worldwide. He was six years old at the time of filming and is now 18. The video featuring Park has surpassed a cumulative 17 billion views and has held the No. 1 spot on YouTube's global view count for 69 consecutive months.
This single marks the first artist project by The Pinkfong Company to connect its globally owned intellectual property (IP) with the real-life growth story of the original performer through music. It is a project where the boy who danced beside Baby Shark steps forward as the main character, sharing his own music and voice after 10 years. Park participated directly in writing the lyrics, and Jooheon from the idol group MONSTA X joined as a featured artist.
Baby Shark Boy said, "I have always been grateful that people still remember me," adding, "If I danced beside Baby Shark 10 years ago, now I want to share my voice and stories I wrote myself." He further stated, "I am happy to start anew with those who have remembered me for so long, and I will show you my growth."
Baby Shark Boy attracted attention last year by making a surprise appearance in social media (SNS) content commemorating the 10th anniversary of Baby Shark. As his transformation from a young boy into a grown-up became a hot topic, the related content accumulated 22 million views.
The Pinkfong Company plans to release a behind-the-scenes documentary titled 'WAVE: A Boy's Record' following the new single's release, which will document Baby Shark Boy's journey of growing alongside Baby Shark.
