Actor Ha Young, whose great-grandfather An Sang-ho's pro-Japanese activities have been exposed and sparked controversy, will voluntarily withdraw from the new season of the Netflix series "Severe Trauma Center."
On the 1st, MyDaily reported that Ha Young directly informed the production team of her decision to withdraw from the new season of "Severe Trauma Center," which is scheduled to begin filming in October.
Ha Young played Nurse Cheon Jang-mi in Season 1 of "Severe Trauma Center," making her face widely recognized by the public. She was originally scheduled to appear in the follow-up season alongside Ju Ji-hoon and Choi Young-woo, but ultimately withdrew due to recent family-related controversy.
Attention now turns to whether the character Cheon Jang-mi, played by Ha Young, will be recast with another actor or if the character itself will be removed entirely.
Due to the fallout from the controversy, Ha Young was unable to participate in promotional activities following the release of Netflix's "Such a Ridiculous Love." She also faced stop-loss selling from advertisers.
SBS drama "There Is Hope," which has already progressed to the latter stages of filming, stated that it will continue filming with Ha Young. Although it is expected to be released next year, its scheduling remains undecided.
Previously, Ha Young revealed on various variety programs that she comes from a family of doctors spanning four generations. Last month, she claimed her late great-grandfather An Sang-ho treated Ko Jong (황제), but controversy erupted when his pro-Japanese activities during the Japanese colonial period were exposed.
Ha Young's great-grandfather An Sang-ho was a pro-Japanese figure who, in an interview with Maeil Sinbo, a newspaper owned by institutional investors of the Japanese colonial government, stated in December 1918 that "I am exactly like a Japanese person," revealing his extreme lifestyle of raising his children entirely in the Japanese manner under the policy of internal integration.
On the 12th, Ha Young bowed her head through a handwritten letter, saying, "Shamefully, I spoke about my great-grandfather as if he were a family pride while remaining ignorant," and added, "I reflect on having lightly mentioned our family history without properly understanding Korea's painful history during the Japanese colonial period."
However, various documents related to Ha Young's family were unearthed, leading to continued public criticism, and ultimately Ha Young announced her withdrawal from the new project.
