Former soccer player Lee Dong-gook (47) revealed that he opposes his son Lee Si-an playing football.
On the 7th, a preview video titled "What's the Point of Leaving It Behind?" was released on the YouTube channel tvN STORY. The video featured former baseball player Lee Jong-beom and former soccer player Lee Dong-gook as guests, sharing their past experiences opposing their children's sports activities.
Lee Jong-beom admitted that he opposed his son Lee Jung-hoo's baseball career after he advanced to Major League Baseball, and Lee Dong-gook responded, "I feel the same way."
When asked why Lee Young-ja had opposed her child's path, Lee Dong-gook said, "Even if they reach a certain level through their own efforts, comments like 'What about your DNA?' or 'Who is your father?' keep following them."
Lee Jong-beom agreed with Lee Dong-gook, saying, "We've heard so many things we couldn't hear ourselves that it could cause stress." He added, "People say things like, 'Your dad is Lee Jong-beom, so you can play even if you're not very good,' or 'Are you playing because of your skill?'—insulting remarks like those."
Lee Dong-gook recalled a moment when his son Lee Si-an missed a penalty kick during a shootout. "I was watching from hiding," he said, "but officials told me, 'Can't even Lee Dong-gook's son make that shot?' When Si-an heard that, he cried."
Lee Dong-gook explained, "Football is a sport involving physical contact, and when Si-an engages in such contact, people say things like, 'Why does his character act this way?' or 'Look at the character of Lee Dong-gook's son.'"
Lee Jong-beom advised, "You'll hear even more of those comments once they enter middle or high school. Jung-hoo heard similar remarks." Lee Dong-gook expressed concern, saying, "I feel lost."
Meanwhile, Lee Dong-gook married in 2005 and has one son and four daughters.
