Broadcaster MC Dingdong (47, real name Lee Heung-won) returned to broadcasting six months after assaulting a female BJ (internet streamer) during a live broadcast.
On the 22nd, MC Dingdong posted several photos on his Instagram along with the message "Return! Comeback!"
The released photos showed him holding a microphone and stepping onto the stage at the recording site of SBS Life's "The Trot Show," reading scripts in the waiting room, and smiling brightly while standing alongside guests Hong Ja and Kang Ye-seul.
Previously, in March, MC Dingdong sparked controversy by grabbing and assaulting a 20-something female BJ (internet streamer) A during an internet live broadcast known as "Excel Broadcast."
Excel Broadcast is a content format that ranks BJs based on donation amounts and organizes them like Excel spreadsheets to encourage competition. To attract donations, participants often engage in provocative or sensational behavior, leading it to be also called a "cyber room salon."
During the broadcast, when one female BJ mentioned his history of drunk driving and fleeing, MC Dingdong grabbed her by the hair and assaulted her. Later, after briefly leaving the scene, he returned with tears in his eyes and apologized to both viewers and the victim. The BJ sustained injuries requiring two weeks of medical treatment and subsequently filed a lawsuit against MC Dingdong.
Previously, in 2022, he was caught by police while driving his own Mercedes-Benz vehicle under the influence near Hawolgok-dong, Seongbuk-gu, Seoul. He then rammed into a police car and fled. He was arrested and prosecuted on charges including violation of the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving), obstruction of official duties with special circumstances, and causing injury while obstructing official duties with special circumstances. He was sentenced to one year and six months in prison, suspended for two years.
