Kim Suk-jin, the wife of actor Song Gi-yoon (74), who is 15 years his junior, revealed that she suffered from aftereffects such as depression and panic disorder after being hit by a dump truck in the past.
Song Gi-yoon and his musician wife Kim Suk-jin appeared on MBN’s 'Exclusive World,' broadcast on the 1st, revealing their daily lives.
On the show, Song Gi-yoon took care of his wife meticulously, doing everything from cleaning to meal preparation himself. Song Gi-yoon, who said he even learned temple cuisine for his wife, revealed that he became more attentive to her after Kim Suk-jin was involved in a major traffic accident in the past.
Kim Suk-jin said she was involved in the accident while scouting a performance venue, recalling, “A dump truck came at full speed from behind and hit me. Just thinking about that moment makes my body tense up even now.”
She continued, “It was a miracle. The shape of the car was completely gone, yet I didn’t shed a single drop of blood,” adding, “Instead, the entire impact hit my whole body.”
She said that after the accident, she suffered not only from physical pain but also from mental aftereffects. Kim Suk-jin revealed, “I developed severe depression and even panic disorder. I took psychiatric medication for a long time. I also had insomnia; there wasn’t a single part of me that was unharmed.”
She then expressed her gratitude regarding Song Gi-yoon, who had cared for her for a long period, saying, “My husband saved my life. He is the benefactor of my life,” and added, “The fact that I am able to be active like this is a miracle; it is as if I was reborn.”
Song Gi-yoon also recalled that his wife’s condition was so poor at the time that he worried whether she would recover. He said, “When she was in pain, I often wished how good it would be if I could share even half of it with her.”
It is reported that the shock of the accident still lingers to some extent today. Song Gi-yoon conveyed that his wife still shows fear regarding traffic accidents, stating, “When driving, if she is sitting next to me and the car in front gets a little too close, she immediately stomps on the brake from her seat.”
Meanwhile, Song Gi-yoon debuted as an MBC 7th public recruitment talent in 1975 and appeared in dramas such as 'TV Sun Tzu’s Art of War,' 'Daalbujaetjip' (The Daughter’s House), 'Baram-eun Bureodo' (Even When the Wind Blows), 'San Neomeo Namcheon-e-neun' (Beyond the Mountain, to the Southern Village), and 'Yeoja-ui Bimil' (A Woman’s Secret).
