Actress Hwang Bo-ra (43) revealed her puffy appearance due to side effects from injections while undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF) procedures for a second child.
On the 20th, a video documenting Hwang's IVF process was posted on the YouTube channel 'Hwang Bo-ra Variety.'
In the video, Hwang attempted an IVF procedure for her second child. She stated that she had taken herbal medicine hoping for follicle growth but stopped taking it after blood tests showed elevated liver function values.
Hwang expressed anticipation, saying, "I hadn't had my period for about two months, and then I was suddenly told that two follicles had developed." However, she was informed that there was a high possibility of empty follicles due to diminished ovarian reserve, forcing her to give up on egg retrieval.
When follicles were detected again several months later, Hwang Bo-ra attempted the IVF procedure once more. She received ovulation induction injections and growth hormone injections.
The next day, with a puffy face, Hwang said, "I am definitely very swollen." Her face also showed signs of skin breakouts.
She stated, "It is extremely difficult. I feel incredibly fatigued, perhaps because my blood test values are not perfect."
The anticipated egg retrieval failed again. Hwang expressed her distress, saying, "This is unbelievable. They said the retrieval was unsuccessful. They clearly said there were eggs," and "I am losing hope. They had said my values were very good."
Hwang revealed, "For a while, Woo-in focused solely on childcare. Both physically and mentally, I gradually grew tired, and I felt overwhelmed not knowing how long I would have to repeat this process." She mentioned that she considered stopping the procedures as failures continued.
She added, "I wondered if it was right to stop, but I couldn't easily give up because I regretted the time spent so far."
After subsequently detecting follicles again and successfully retrieving eggs, Hwang Bo-ra reaffirmed her determination, saying, "Miracles do happen, so even when I am tired and struggling, I will keep trying until the end."
Meanwhile, Hwang married Kim Young-hoon, the second son of actor Kim Yong-gyun and younger brother of Ha Jung-woo, in 2022, and welcomed a son in 2024.
