KT has unveiled a "medical standard model" that applies AI (artificial intelligence) across the entire spectrum of hospital operations, from patient reservations and guidance to medical record documentation, billing, and medical data management. The company plans to expand its medical AX (AI transformation) business targeting tertiary general hospitals and general hospitals nationwide, while also participating in the government's AI healthcare diffusion initiative.
On the 1st, KT announced that it has established a medical standard model combining infrastructure, data platforms, and AI services tailored to each hospital's needs. After analyzing demand among medical staff and hospital management, the company identified three key application areas: improving the patient consultation experience, enhancing the quality and convenience of care for medical staff, and streamlining hospital operations.
In areas directly interacting with patients, an "AI Patient Assistant" is deployed. An AI voicebot handles inquiries 24 hours a day, classifies symptoms, and assists with reservations and check-ins. It also provides guidance on necessary post-discharge management for patients. KT plans to add a medical knowledge-based RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) search function in the first quarter of next year.
AI agents will also take over repetitive tasks for medical staff. Nursing and operating room schedule agents support personnel and facility operations, while the "Medical Administration Agent" recognizes and analyzes conversations between medical staff and patients to create consultation notes reflecting medical terminology and abbreviations. Once reviewed and approved by medical staff, this agent integrates with electronic health records and examination/prescription systems, supporting administrative workflows from record creation to orders and billing.
A medical data platform will also be built to connect fragmented data across hospitals. It collects and stores electronic health records, medical images, and examination/research data, then links them in accordance with medical information exchange standards. The platform is designed not only for medical data retrieval but also for building AI training datasets and developing and validating medical AI.
In the future, KT will expand into diagnostic and interpretation areas by combining solutions from specialized medical companies with its own data platform, HYBE Lead Cloud, and GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) computing infrastructure. Target applications include an AI cancer diagnosis CDSS (Clinical Decision Support System) that provides treatment evidence based on patients' clinical and imaging information, and real-time analysis of endoscopic images via AI endoscopy interpretation.
KT plans to reorganize its specialized medical AX team and expand its business centered on tertiary general hospitals nationwide. The company also intends to participate in the "AI Specialized Hospital" project under the government's "AI Basic Healthcare Strategy," aiming to validate services in actual hospital environments. This month, KT will host a medical AX seminar for general hospital officials.
Kim Bong-gyun, Senior Vice President and Head of KT Enterprise Division, stated, "Each hospital has different systems, data environments, and priorities for AX implementation." He added, "By combining KT's infrastructure and AX capabilities, we will provide the foundation for hospitals to introduce necessary services and expand them progressively."
