Singer and broadcaster Yuk Jung-wan revealed that he missed an opportunity to buy a building in Mangwondong.
The episode of MBC's 'Radio Star' aired on the 28th featured Lee Gye-in, Yoon Taek, Yuk Jung-wan, and Kim Min in a special titled "I Will Become a Hermit."
On the show, when the MCs asked Yuk Jung-wan, "We heard you hit the jackpot with a 4 billion won lottery ticket," he recalled his days living in Mangwondong, Mapo District, Seoul, before his marriage.
He said, "When I was living in a rooftop room in Mangwondong, I got along very well with the residents." He added, "We treated each other like family, and one day, after hearing on a broadcast that I was getting married, the residents came to visit me one by one."
He continued, "They would say things like, 'You don't have a house, do you?' and introduce me to plots of land in Mangwondong, one person at a time. They showed me prime properties that weren't listed on the real estate market. The elderly residents wanted to give me some of the two or three properties they owned."
Yuk Jung-wan said, "The elderly landlord of the building where I lived in my rooftop room came to see me. He said, 'Jung-wan, this is really cheap. I'll sell it to you for 850 million won. I'm only selling it to you.' When I told him I had 300 million won in cash, the elderly man even explained how to get a loan. But because I didn't know anything about investing, I was scared and turned it down."
He then added, "After that, the elderly landlord came by two or three more times, but I declined. That property is worth around 4 billion won now," expressing his regret.
