Actor Lee Jong-suk is drawing renewed attention after an anecdote about being monitored by a complainant while serving as a social service worker resurfaced.
An interview he gave to a magazine after completing his service was shared on an online community on Thursday.
Asked about the most memorable complaint he encountered, Lee recalled a person who recognized him early in his service. The individual would arrive at the public service office before Lee clocked in and stay there until he left work.
"It felt as if the person was watching to see whether I arrived on time and did my job properly," Lee said.

When the interviewer joked that the person might have come to enjoy the benefit of seeing Lee's face, he replied, "That was surveillance."
He added, "The person was like a neighborhood watchman monitoring celebrities doing their military service. I worked really hard."
Lee received a Grade 4 classification in his military physical examination after tearing a cruciate ligament in a car accident when he was in middle school.
He served as a social service worker from March 8, 2019, until his discharge on Jan. 2, 2021.
