Ha Jung-woo, vice chair of the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy Committee (hereinafter referred to as the Committee), visited AI policy sites in the Gangwon Province to examine the execution status of specific tasks under the "Korea Artificial Intelligence Action Plan."
The Committee said Tuesday that Ha visited underserved medical areas in Pyeongchang, Gangwon Province, and the planned site for an AI data center in Donghae from Monday to Tuesday. During the visit, he reviewed the progress of the government's "Three Mega Projects" and the "Korea AI Action Plan," while also listening to voices from the field.
First, he toured the Digital Innovation Center at Pyeongchang County Health Medical Center and Haanmi Health Clinic, observing how medical AI and digital health are being utilized for patient care in underserved areas.
In Gangneung, the host city of the "2026 ITS World Congress," he visited the Gangneung Urban Information Center to check whether the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) is operating effectively. He inspected smart city operations, including integrated CCTV monitoring, and delivered a keynote speech at the ITS World Congress, which began the previous day.
Subsequently, he visited the Gangneung campus of Korea Polytechnic University to review plans for cultivating practical AI talent among young people, before visiting the Donghae AI Data Center to check on the progress of the "Korea Three Mega Projects." At LS Cable's Donghae factory, he examined technologies and production sites related to power infrastructure required for AI data centers.
Ha said, "The outcomes of the AI Daejeon initiative must go beyond technological advancement and lead to tangible changes in people's daily lives and regional industries." He added, "The Committee will take the lead in connecting voices from the field—ranging from residents of underserved medical areas to young people learning technology and companies embarking on large-scale investments—to government-wide policies."
