A man who went on a one-night, two-day trip with a female employee at his workplace while leaving his pregnant wife behind, putting their marriage in crisis, claimed that the conflict began due to his father-in-law and expressed his sense of injustice.
On the 17th, an episode of KBS Joy's variety program "Ask Me Anything" featured the story of a man who has been married for six years in its "Mini Ask Me Anything" segment.
The man claimed that he recently went on a one-night, two-day trip to relieve stress after frequent arguments with his pregnant wife. He also argued that a female employee at his workplace happened to have free time and joined him on the trip.
However, as soon as they arrived at their destination, he received a call from his mother-in-law stating that his wife might miscarry. When he rushed back to the hospital, he found an angry father-in-law waiting for him.
According to the man, his father-in-law slapped his cheek while saying, "You're not even alone; you went on a trip with another woman while your wife is pregnant? How can you still call yourself a dad?"
The man argued that his father-in-law also bore responsibility for the conflict he had with his wife and for him going on the trip. He claimed the root of the dispute was an incident from several years ago when they tried to buy a house while expecting their first child, but his father-in-law dissuaded them.
At that time, the man intended to purchase a 59-square-meter (18-pyeong) home using a loan. However, his father-in-law warned him against it due to high interest rates and offered to move out of their 112-square-meter (34-pyeong) apartment in the countryside so the couple could live there instead.
The man initially appreciated living in an apartment near a subway station and close to his workplace. His perspective changed only after he learned that the price of the house he had wanted to buy had risen by approximately 300 million won since then.
He revealed, "If we had bought the house back then, my assets would have increased by 300 million won," and expressed regret over missing out on an opportunity to earn money because of his father-in-law. Eventually, he demanded either 300 million won in compensation from his father-in-law or that the house they currently live in be given entirely to him.
The father-in-law refused, saying, "What kind of nonsense is this? Do you think I lent you this house so you could hear such things?"
Following this, the man frequently argued with his wife due to his resentment toward his father-in-law and eventually went on a trip with a female employee at his workplace. It was reported that upon learning of this, his wife suspected infidelity and is preparing for divorce proceedings, demanding alimony and child custody, as well as filing a lawsuit against the other woman.
The man pleaded his case, stating, "I returned immediately after arriving at the destination, so I didn't even hang out with the female employee." He sought advice as his wife is preparing for divorce litigation using evidence such as vehicle blackbox recordings.
Upon hearing the story, Lee Su-geun asked, "Did you send this story just to get me on your side?" and expressed disbelief. He then pointed out, "If you had bought that house and its value had dropped instead, would you have paid your father-in-law an amount equal to the loss?"
Regarding the trip with the female employee, he said, "You didn't even go on a healing trip with your wife; she just happened to have free time and joined you. Does that mean it's okay because you came back immediately?" He added, "It seems like a story where your wife would want a divorce."
Seo Jang-hoon also remarked, "You should tell a sensible story if you expect understanding," and told the wife, "I hope you get a divorce as soon as possible." To the man, he delivered a sharp rebuke: "Come to your senses. It will be difficult to live your life properly in the future with such an attitude."
