Singer and actress IU (IU), who announced a suspension of activities, was spotted sending gifts to the filming set of Byun Woo-seok, with whom she co-starred in '21st Century Grand Duchess'.
On the 1st, a food truck vendor posted photos along with the caption "Filming support site for Netflix drama 'Solo Leveling'."
The vendor stated, "Actress IU sent a food truck to the filming set for actor Byun Woo-seok and the production team. She generously ordered the World Star Set," announcing that IU had sent a food truck to support Byun Woo-seok and the rest of the 'Solo Leveling' team.
The released photos captured the food truck arriving at the filming site. The banner featured a three-line poem utilizing Byun Woo-seok's name and a two-shot photo of IU and Byun Woo-seok.
IU and Byun Woo-seok previously worked together in the MBC Friday-Saturday drama '21st Century Grand Duchess', which concluded in June.
At that time, the work was engulfed in a historical distortion controversy, prompting both individuals to bow their heads to the public. The drama faced criticism for using a nine-rank crown (guryu myeonryugwan), which signifies vassal states, instead of the ten-rank crown (sipimyonryugwan) used by Ha Go (황제) in scenes depicting the coronation of Prince Lee An (played by Byun Woo-seok), where the term 'Cheonsae'—an expression used by vassal states—was spoken.
Regarding the controversy, IU said, "As the lead actress of the work, I feel I failed to show a responsible image and caused great disappointment, for which I am very sorry and my heart remains heavy even now." She added, "I deeply reflect on and apologize without any excuse for approaching the acting without giving deeper thought to various historical verification issues within the drama."
Byun Woo-seok stated, "I lacked sufficient consideration regarding what the historical context and meaning contained in the work were and how viewers might receive them. I have once again deeply realized that as an actor, it is necessary to more responsibly examine and consider not only the acting but also the message and context of the work itself. I sincerely offer my apologies."
IU has temporarily suspended activities for treatment and recovery from interstitial lung disease. In July, she acknowledged her breakup with actor Lee Jong-suk, whom she had been publicly dating.
Currently, Byun Woo-seok is filming the Netflix original series 'Solo Leveling'.
