Medical doctor Hong Hye-geol shared his complex feelings after facing backlash for mentioning his wife Yeo Esther's good deed on a television program.
On the 2nd, Hong posted on SNS (social media), "Many may have noticed, but I am trying to live kindly or appear kind," adding, "However, one difficulty has arisen: criticism from those who say, 'Your promotion of kindness causes harm.'"
He further explained, "For instance, giving large tips to caddies or drivers can undermine fair pricing and make those paying the standard price seem stingy."
Previously, on the 19th of last month, Hong shared an anecdote on MBC's variety show 'Radio Star' about his wife Yeo Esther, who has suffered from severe depression for over a decade, gifting an office building in Gangnam to her housekeeper who had stayed by her side for more than ten years.
Regarding this, he stated, "Since the broadcast, while we have kept the housekeeper, some have expressed discomfort that our act of gifting a house made those unable to afford such generosity feel uneasy."
Hong also mentioned that during a hot summer, he suggested air-conditioning the lobby of an apartment for security guards, only to receive a complaint from a resident saying, "You, who are wealthy, should pay for it," and that he faced objections from other pharmaceutical companies after selling nutritional supplements at low prices.
He then remarked, "Everyone's criticism is valid. Living in this world is truly complicated and difficult," expressing his bitterness.
