Singer Song Chang-sik (79) opens up about his turbulent family life.
Song Chang-sik will appear on MBN's "Kim Ju-ha's Day & Night," airing on the 5th, to speak about his impoverished childhood.
When the topic of family arose, Song Chang-sik began by saying, "There is no close bond among family members."
His father, a police officer, passed away while serving in the military during the Korean War when Song was young, and his mother left home around the time he entered elementary school.
Song Chang-sik said, "Without parents, I moved between my grandfather's and uncle's homes," adding, "Because I was always living as a guest, it wasn't a life where family members lived with tender affection for one another," evoking a sense of sorrow.
Song Chang-sik confessed that he parted from his parents at such a young age that he barely understood the painful and sad emotions surrounding family, stating, "Even now, I still don't know how to love and show affection toward others properly."
He explained, "My heart isn't cold, but my actions are," revealing his difficulty in opening up easily due to childhood experiences.
Jeong Mi-jo, who appeared alongside Song Chang-sik, also reflected on her own life.
Jeong Mi-jo discussed why she chose to study abroad in Paris instead of marrying at the height of her career at age 29. Her father was not pleased with her decision to leave for overseas studies during her prime marriageable years, but Jeong Mi-jo saved money from her singing activities to fund her education and departed for Paris alone.
Jeong Mi-jo recalled that after stepping down from her position as a popular singer, she lived a new life as an art student, dedicating herself to original work. Her talent and efforts were recognized in 1983 when she won first place at "Le Salon" held at the Grand Palais in Paris, honored by the French fashion magazine "ELLE." It is reported that the audience applauded her achievements after transforming from a popular singer into an art student.
