Actor Hwang Seok-jeong (55) confessed that he has been afflicted with a rare pain syndrome.
On the 17th, a video titled "You thought I was dying. Hwang Seok-jeong's tearful confession about his life that hovered between life and death due to rare pain" was released on the YouTube channel 'Jeol-e-gan-seong-gyeong'.
The video features Hwang Seok-jeong visiting Yakcheon-sa Temple in Paju alongside broadcaster Kim Sung-kyung.
Kim Sung-kyung asked Hwang Seok-jeong, "How did you manage the one-person play 'Iliad'? I was shocked that you cried for two hours and twenty minutes, ran around everywhere, and did it all by yourself."
Hwang Seok-jeong replied, "I don't know how I did it. I was in pain. I thought I was dying," before continuing. The two then visited the temple, and Hwang added, "Life has been so exhausting that my mental peace keeps slipping away."
He further shared, "My heart would tremble, and I even developed obsessive-compulsive disorder and panic attacks, yet people didn't realize I was sick. Recently, I suffered so severely that it felt like I was almost dying," he revealed.
Recalling the experience, he said, "I endured pain that came without any reason. I couldn't sleep, couldn't lie down, and couldn't even sit still. A burning sensation of pain continued throughout my body."
He then added, "When I began to think the cause of the pain was within me, everything around me grew quiet. Since having that thought, I've gradually improved, and now I'm no longer in pain. Of course, I'm still taking medication, but it seems I'm becoming someone who can find joy in small things."
Meanwhile, Hwang Seok-jeong made his debut in 2001 with the film 'Please Take Care of Goyang', and has since appeared in movies such as 'The Yellow Sea' and 'The Wailing', as well as dramas like 'Misaeng' and 'She Was Pretty'. Recently, he portrayed a health center director in director Na Hong-jin's film 'Hope'.
