Singer Kim Yeon-ja looks back on her 52-year singing career.
Kim Yeon-ja, who is celebrating her 52nd anniversary since debut, will appear on tvN's variety show "You Quiz on the Block," airing at 8:45 p.m. on the 30th.
After debuting in 1974, Kim was known as the Queen of Enka during the 1980s and 1990s, and remains a "legend of trot" who continues to be active to this day.
Kim shares her singing career story, from the days when she moved to the capital at age 15, working in a factory during the day and performing on stage at night, to her entry into the Japanese market and the reverse chart success of "Amor Party."
She also reveals how she gained recognition through a medley album after going through a difficult period as an unknown artist, as well as an anecdote about singing "From the Land of the Morning" at the closing ceremony of the 1988 Olympics.
In particular, Kim draws attention by revealing that although she earned approximately 100 billion won during her activities in Japan, she entrusted the money to her ex-husband and returned home with nothing.
Kim also sheds tears, stating that her mother currently has acute Parkinson's disease and has difficulty moving. She opens up about her feelings for her mother, who stayed by her side for a long time while even taking on the role of manager.
Kim reveals the behind-the-scenes story of "Amor Party," which was born from her desire to "create one song for life," and the process of its successful reverse chart run after four years. She also performs live versions of hit songs including "Amor Party" and her signature cape performance.
Meanwhile, Kim married a second-generation Japanese-Korean who was 18 years older than her in 1982 when she was 23, but divorced in May 2012. In a past broadcast appearance, Kim revealed that while So Sok-sa (President) was managing her finances during her time in Japan, she did not receive a single won in alimony from her husband at the time of their divorce.
