YouTuber Oliver Sam (38, real name Oliver Shan Grant) will pause his activities for the first time in 10 years.
Oliver Sam announced on his YouTube channel on the 8th that he would temporarily suspend his YouTube activities to allow himself and his family to recover their mental health.
He stated, "Recently, I have experienced significant changes and difficulties in a short period of time, including my father's sudden passing and a cross-continental move spanning more than 1,600 kilometers." He added, "I believed that with effort, love, and passion, we could overcome all hardships, but it seems that was just greed and overconfidence."
He further explained, "While I was running breathlessly, focused only on the future, the wounds and fatigue accumulated deep in the hearts of my wife, children, and myself in unseen places were far deeper and heavier than I had imagined." He noted, "Because I did not properly care for these issues, it placed a strain on both my body and mind."
Oliver Sam revealed that he has reached a state of "emotional burnout," where his brain and mind feel as if they have stopped to the point that he can no longer continue with everyday thoughts or video production. He said he received a recommendation from a specialist that at least six months of sufficient treatment and rest are necessary.
Oliver Sam stated, "This long break is my first in the past 10 years, so I feel heavy-hearted and afraid." He added, "I have concluded that rather than forcing myself to endure it, firmly repairing the broken vessel of my heart is the path that will benefit my family and you all in the long run."
Oliver Sam will enter a long break after his scheduled live broadcast on the night of the 9th. He said, "I want to make this final farewell a warm time where I convey my message simply and sincerely." He added, "After the broadcast, I will devote myself to tending to and recovering from my family's wounds for the time being."
Oliver Sam, an American of German descent, worked as a native English teacher in Korea before starting his YouTube activities in 2015. The following year, he married a Korean wife, and they have two daughters.
