Jennie of the group BLACKPINK made a surprise appearance at pop star The Weeknd's concert in Korea, sharing the stage with him.
Jennie appeared as a special guest at the second performance of "Hyundai Card Super Concert 28 The Weeknd," held on the 8th at the main stadium of Goyang Comprehensive Sports Complex in Gyeonggi Province. Jennie sang "One Of The Girls," a collaboration track released in 2023, alongside The Weeknd.
This marked the first stage where Jennie and The Weeknd performed "One Of The Girls" live together. The U.S. music publication Billboard also reported on news of the duo's first live performance.
"One Of The Girls" was included in the setlist for the first concert held on the 7th, but Jennie did not appear at that time. However, when Jennie took the stage in person on the second day, cheers erupted from the audience.
On this day, Jennie appeared wearing a purple-toned stage outfit and a full bang hairstyle covering her forehead. After finishing the performance by exchanging vocals with The Weeknd, Jennie hugged him, and The Weeknd also greeted her as she headed toward the back of the stage.
As she exited, Jennie said in Korean, "Weekend Oppa, have a fun show," drawing laughter and cheers from the audience. "Weekend Oppa" is an affectionate nickname used by domestic fans for The Weeknd, derived from a literal translation of his English stage name, "The Weeknd."
The duo's connection dates back to 2023. Jennie made her acting debut through the HBO drama "The Idol," which was co-produced and starred in by The Weeknd. At the time, Jennie participated in the drama's OST track "One Of The Girls" alongside The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp.
The song gained popularity, charting on the U.S. Billboard main singles chart "Hot 100" for 20 weeks. Three years later, the two are set to sing the song together live in Korea for the first time.
Meanwhile, The Weeknd held a concert in Korea for the first time in eight years on this day. A total of 100,000 audience members attended the two-day concert that ran from the previous day through this day.
