Actress Seo Ye-ji, who had suspended her activities due to privacy-related controversies, is set to return to the screen after approximately six years through the film "Geumwoldo."
Her agency, B-Wave Entertainment, said Wednesday that Seo has been cast in the role of Kim Ji-hoo in the film "Geumwoldo."
"Geumwoldo" is a work inspired by actual records of cannibalism documented in the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty. Set against the backdrop of a remote island and a closed community in Korea, it presents a new genre attempt dubbed "Korean-style vampires." The film will be directed by Baek Dong-hoon, who helmed "Le Grand Chef 2: Kimchi Battle," with a target theatrical release in 2027.
In the film, Seo plays a character who defies her fate. Kim Ji-hoo is a figure who sets foot on the remote island of Geumwoldo after receiving a message from her mother and subsequently investigates mysterious incidents occurring there.
Seo suffered damage to her public image in 2021 when she was embroiled in allegations of gaslighting her former boyfriend, actor Kim Jung-hyun. Although she returned approximately one year later with the drama "Eve," she did not continue her acting activities for a considerable period afterward.
However, she recently reconnected with the public by appearing in the play "Hymn of Death" from January through March of this year.
Meanwhile, Seo Ye-ji, born in 1990, made her debut in the tvN sitcom "Potato Star 2013QR3" in 2013. She subsequently gained recognition for her appearances in dramas such as "Save Me" and "It's Okay to Not Be Okay."
