On the 10th, AI-based mobility diagnostic solution company Wipro announced that it will supply its vehicle exterior automatic inspection solution, 'VAIS (Vehicle Automated Inspection System),' to future parking lots where robots park vehicles.
This demonstration is part of a project promoted by the Hyundai Motor·Hyundai Wia·Hyundai E&C consortium at 'Hillstate The Wave City' in Siheung-si, Gyeonggi-do. It proceeds with approval from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Smart City Regulatory Sandbox and receives government funding. Wipro will collaborate with the consortium to build VAIS in a demonstration area covering approximately 53 parking spaces within an underground first-floor parking lot.
Existing vehicle exterior identification technologies had limitations, requiring workers to take photos directly with smartphones or wait for vehicles to be parked in dedicated booths, making them difficult to apply in parking lot environments. In contrast, Wipro has implemented a drive-through automatic inspection system that completes inspections as long as vehicles pass through without stopping, based on a vision AI model trained on over 1 million vehicle exterior damage data points.
VAIS recognizes 32 areas including bumpers, fenders, doors, tires, and lamps, and identifies four types of damage: scratches, dents, gaps, and breakages. It automatically distinguishes between existing damages and newly occurring ones by comparing images captured from different angles and lighting conditions. This provides objective data evidence to verify vehicle conditions in unmanned parking environments.
The solution is already deployed and commercially operating at maintenance sites in Pocheon, Yongin, Hwaseong, and other locations in Gyeonggi Province, where it has been verified for improving on-site efficiency by automating records of vehicle entry and exit processes. Wipro plans to expand its solution supply to all areas involving vehicle handover, such as rental cars, car-sharing, logistics, and insurance claim processing, leveraging this application in multi-family housing complexes.
Kim Ui-jeong Wi Peul-ro (CEO) stated, "As unmanned environments where people do not directly handle vehicles, such as parking robots and autonomous parking, become more widespread, technologies that automatically record and verify vehicle conditions will become a prerequisite." He added, "Based on accumulated data and vision AI technology, we will establish standards for future parking infrastructure."
