Hyundai Mobis is accelerating its utilization of artificial intelligence (AI) by newly establishing a dedicated organization. Following Hyundai Motor Group's official announcement to accelerate AI transformation (AX) across research and development, manufacturing, and services, Hyundai Mobis is expanding the application of AI across all business areas, including procurement, quality, and sales.
According to industry sources on the 13th, Hyundai Mobis established a "Company-Wide AI Diffusion TFT (Task Force Team)" under the DT Promotion Office in June. This organization is responsible for applying AI technology to the operations of various internal departments to enhance efficiency and supporting the diffusion of AI utilization among employees. The DT Promotion Office, to which the TFT belongs, has been the organization in charge of digital transformation, including the construction of internal information systems and data platforms.
The "Company-Wide AI Diffusion TFT" is first identifying tasks where AI can be utilized across various departments such as procurement, quality, sales, and research and development, and supporting their application in actual operations. In particular, it focuses on helping employees utilize AI in their daily work.
A Hyundai Mobis official explained, "We are promoting the automation of fields that have previously been divided individually, such as design, documentation, procurement, quality, research, and development, by integrating them with AI," adding, "It is a team created to systematically improve efficiency using AI for methods that were inefficient in individual systems."
Previously, Hyundai Mobis officially introduced its internal-exclusive generative AI platform, "MoAI (Mobis one AI)," in October of last year. As a self-developed conversational service connected to the internal business system, it supports everything from searching documents, images, and manuals to creating analytical reports.
In particular, when questions are asked about specific product development projects, related information such as schedules, progress status, and responsible personnel can be checked at once. In the quality field, past improvement histories can be searched and utilized for formulating countermeasures, while in the sales division, it can be used to analyze numerical data such as raw material prices.
Hyundai Mobis plans to first apply MoAI to seven business areas, including research and development, IT (Information Technology), quality, sales, and production, before expanding it to legal affairs and management support. The establishment of the AI dedicated organization appears to be a measure emphasizing the diffusion of such technologies into actual operations.
Collaboration between affiliated companies is also gaining momentum. Recently, Hyundai Mobis held an exchange event with the "HR AX Promotion TFT" under the Management Support Office of Hyundai AutoEver. Both sides shared the status of AI transformation promotion and business application cases, and discussed ways to identify new tasks. Hyundai AutoEver has also been increasing its AI utilization by establishing the relevant organization in February.
Hyundai Mobis's organizational establishment is also aligned with the company-wide AX being promoted by Hyundai Motor Group. In August, Hyundai Motor Group held an AX results presentation event and disclosed cases where work performance methods were changed using AI across research and development, manufacturing, and services.
Representatively, Hyundai Motor and Kia are providing their internal generative AI platform, "H Chat Pro," to employees. As of July, the number of users exceeded 30,000, accounting for approximately 80% of general and research staff. The trend of supporting employees to directly create and utilize AI-based work tools is also spreading. Additionally, on-site results were disclosed. The collision safety AI assistant introduced at the Namyang Technology Research Institute reduced the time spent searching past test cases and reviewing materials by approximately 90%. The AI automated recognition service applied to approximately 70 global production bases achieved an annual cost reduction effect of 5.24 billion won. In August, Hyundai Motor and Kia also opened an "AI Specialized Joint Training Center" for parts suppliers, embarking on strengthening the AI capabilities of supplier employees.
