HD Hyundai Robotics announced on the 1st that it is moving to advance its "physical AI solutions" in partnership with global artificial intelligence (AI) software company Palantir Technologies (Palantir).
HD Hyundai Robotics, a robotics solution specialist under HD Hyundai, recently participated as a keynote speaker at Palantir's "Sovereignty Bootcamp" held in New York, USA, sharing its physical AI application strategy and collaboration results. The Sovereignty Bootcamp is an event that discusses ways to enhance business competitiveness using AI while protecting companies' data and core business information. Since its first holding in July, the event has been conducted three times, with over 450 executives from approximately 250 global institutional investors and companies participating.
Ahn Seong-hwan, CTO and Senior Executive Vice President of HD Hyundai Robotics, who delivered the keynote speech, introduced the specific status, results, and future plans of the collaboration projects being pursued with Palantir. The two companies are focusing on improving existing robot programming methods and expanding the role of field engineers to apply physical AI in industrial settings. Previously, skilled engineers had to directly observe robot movements and repeatedly adjust work sequences, movement paths, speeds, and other factors. This method relied on individual engineers' experience, making it difficult to standardize tasks.
To improve this, the two companies focused on integrating AI, simulation, and engineer judgment into one system. In this structure, an AI agent analyzes existing robot programs and proposes improvement plans, which engineers then supplement based on their field experience. HD Hyundai Robotics plans to develop engineers from their traditional roles in robot programming, installation, and commissioning into "field solution experts" who define field problems and implement optimal solutions using AI technology.
In practice, the two companies introduced an AI agent into the problem-solving process starting last August, reducing the average time required for tasks from 21.5 days to 7.9 days, a reduction of approximately 63%. HD Hyundai Robotics expects this will also cut robot programming costs by more than 50%. The two companies plan to regularly hold an operations committee with participation from key executives to discuss the direction and priorities of collaboration projects. They also aim to identify use cases that can produce visible results in industrial settings.
Ahn Seong-hwan, Senior Executive Vice President of HD Hyundai Robotics, stated, "We are continuously expanding collaborations with global companies to further advance our physical AI capabilities," adding, "We plan to expand the application scope of our physical AI solution business by identifying tasks that can solve field problems more quickly and effectively."
Ryan Taylor, Chief Revenue Officer (CRO) of Palantir, said, "Through our collaboration, we are innovating how we solve customer problems," adding, "We will support HD Hyundai Robotics in creating new business opportunities by integrating with Palantir's AI platform."
