Doosan Corp. said Friday it signed an investment agreement with Changshu, Jiangsu Province, China, on Thursday to build a new copper clad laminate (CCL) production line in the city, with an investment of approximately 550 billion won.
The signing ceremony at Suzhou City Hall was attended by Suzhou Mayor Wang Wei, Doosan President Yoo Seung-woo and Kim In-wook, head of Doosan's Electronics Business Group.
The investment details the Chinese portion of Doosan's previously announced 970 billion won plan to expand production facilities in September.
The company plans to build a new production line on a site of approximately 185,000 square meters near its existing plant in Changshu, with investment to be made in phases through 2028. The new line is scheduled to begin operations in stages in the second half of 2028.
Doosan expects to stabilize operations at the new line by leveraging its existing workforce and production infrastructure, having operated a CCL plant in Changshu since 2012. Changshu authorities will provide administrative support, including project approvals and permits required for construction and operation.
CCL is a key material used in semiconductor packaging and printed circuit boards (PCBs). As demand for AI servers and high-performance semiconductors grows, securing a stable supply of high-performance CCL has become increasingly important. Doosan aims to expand its global production footprint to meet rising customer demand.
The company is also investing in domestic production facilities. On Oct. 27, Doosan signed an investment agreement with North Jeolla Province and Gimje City to build a dedicated CCL production line for optical modules.
It plans to invest 399.2 billion won through 2028 to construct a facility with a total floor area of approximately 33,000 square meters in the Gimje Jipyeongseon General Industrial Complex. In April, it also announced plans to build a new plant in Thailand.
Doosan plans to establish a global CCL production network linking South Korea, China and Thailand to meet customer demand.
"Leveraging our technological expertise and production capabilities, we will ensure timely supply of the volumes our customers need and strengthen our competitiveness in the high-end CCL market," Doosan President Yoo said.
