
The two major domestic stock markets closed higher, buoyed by a boom in semiconductor stocks. The upward trend on this day was led by foreign investors and institutional investors.
On the 7th, the KOSPI closed at 6,995.39, up 308.18 points (4.61%) from the previous trading day. The KOSPI opened at 6,910.78, up 223.57 points (3.34%), and widened its gains. The KOSPI rose for a third consecutive day.
The domestic stock market showed a strong trend centered on semiconductors despite concerns over interest rate hikes. There are indications that the Federal Reserve System may raise the base rate to curb inflation. Accordingly, on the 4th (local time), the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the Standard & Poor's (S&P) 500 Index fell. However, semiconductor stocks such as SanDisk (11.90%), SK Hynix ADR (8.14%), and Micron (6.10%) rose.
Looking at KOSPI supply and demand conditions, foreign investors and institutional investors made net purchases of 2.9614 trillion won and 3.4235 trillion won worth of stocks, respectively, as of market close. Venture capital firms such as private equity funds and VC (venture capital) also made net purchases of 1.6184 trillion won worth of stocks. In contrast, retail investors made net sales of 7.9597 trillion won worth of stocks.
By KOSPI industry sector, machinery & equipment and electrical & electronics rose by over 6% from the previous trading day. Manufacturing rose by over 5%, and construction rose by over 4%. Food & tobacco fell by over 2%, while real estate and textiles & clothing each fell by over 1%.
The top KOSPI market capitalization stocks showed strength up to rank 11. Among these, Doosan Enerbility rose 10.98% from the previous trading day. This was followed by SK Hynix and SK Square, which rose by over 7%, and Samsung Electronics, which rose by over 5%.
The KOSDAQ closed at 822.19, up 8.69 points (1.07%) from the previous trading day. The KOSDAQ opened at 822.91, up 9.41 points (1.16%), on this day.
The KOSDAQ saw clear outflows from foreign investors and institutional investors. Foreign investors and institutional investors made net sales of 119.9 billion won and 118.2 billion won worth of stocks, respectively. Retail investors made net purchases of 219.2 billion won worth of stocks.
By KOSDAQ industry sector, non-metals rose by over 4%, while machinery & equipment and medical devices rose by over 2%.
Among the top KOSDAQ market capitalization stocks, HPSP and Juseong Engineering rose by over 4% from the previous trading day. RAINBOW Robotics and HLB fell by over 2%.
On this day, the won/dollar exchange rate closed weekly trading at 1,340.5 won, down 9.9 won from the price at 3:30 p.m. the previous trading day.
