On the 29th (local time), the Dow Jones Industrial Average on the New York Stock Exchange closed at 51,349.92, down 131.59 points (0.26%) from the previous trading day. The S&P 500 index fell 12.85 points (0.17%) to 7670.84, and the NASDAQ Composite Index dropped 22.84 points (0.09%) to 26,797.54.
The KOSPI showed net selling by both foreign investors and institutional investors. As of the close of regular trading, foreign investors and institutional investors recorded net sales of KOSPI stocks worth 2.2747 trillion won and 858.6 billion won, respectively. Retail investors made net purchases of 1.4544 trillion won on their own, but failed to defend the index.
By sector, the KOSPI saw insurance fall in the 3rd% range, while financials, entertainment and culture, food and tobacco, and telecommunications each declined in the 1st% range. Machinery and equipment rose in the 1st% range. The remaining sectors were flat.
Among top market capitalization stocks on the KOSPI, Samsung Electronics fell in the 1st% range, while SK Hynix rose slightly, showing a sluggish trend. Samsung Life Insurance and Shinhan Financial Group dropped significantly in the 3rd% range, followed by KB Financial Group falling in the 2nd% range and Hyundai Motor declining in the 1st% range.
The KOSDAQ ended regular trading at 855.91, up 6.11 points (0.72%) from the previous trading day at the same time. The KOSDAQ opened at 854.78, up 4.98 points (0.59%), and moved within a narrow range near flat levels.
Looking at supply and demand on the KOSDAQ, retail investors and foreign investors recorded net sales of stocks worth 2.27 trillion won and 66.4 billion won, respectively. Institutional investors made net purchases of stocks worth 56 billion won.
By sector on the KOSDAQ, metals, machinery and equipment, and non-metals rose in the 1st% range, while entertainment and culture fell in the 1st% range.
Among top market capitalization stocks on the KOSDAQ, Jusung Engineering, Eoptolink, and HPSP rose in the 4th% range. Ecopro BM, HLB, and Ecopro increased in the 2nd% range.
As of 3:30 p.m. on the day, the won-dollar exchange rate stood at 1356.7 won, down 8.4 won from the same time the previous day.
