KT announced on the 2nd that it will activate special communication measures to ensure stable communication services in anticipation of crowds attending the fireworks festival scheduled for the 5th.
Fireworks festivals are characterized by large gatherings of people and a surge in high-volume data transmission at specific times, such as video sharing, so KT has prepared countermeasures in advance to address these conditions.
First, KT will inspect communication quality along major transit routes, including the Yeouido Han River Park area and nearby subway stations, and has pre-increased base station capacity in the surrounding areas. Mobile base stations have also been additionally deployed to secure network reception capacity.
On the day of the event, a 24-hour response system will be operated centered on the comprehensive control room. The plan is to increase on-site and support personnel compared to normal times to enable rapid response in case of any unusual situations.
In particular, KT plans to utilize 5G network slicing technology to allow organizers to receive CCTV footage from across the event venue without congestion. 5G network slicing is a technology that divides a single 5G network into multiple segments to provide more stable communication quality for specific services.
KT Network Division Network Operation Innovation Headquarters Head Jeong Seon-il (SVP) stated, "The fireworks festival is a representative event where massive traffic concentrates in a short period," and added, "We will ensure thorough network operations so that visitors can smoothly share their emotional experiences with family and friends."
