Naver (NAVER) is set to fully launch its medical AI business. The plan involves leveraging healthcare data accumulated over the past decade for platform-based operations.
According to Naver on the 8th, the company plans to establish a new healthcare organization under its Tech Business division starting next month on the 1st to expand its digital healthcare services. Woo Deok-seok and Park Chan-hee, co-CEOs of Senacl, a digital healthcare firm acquired by Naver last year, will serve as co-CEOs of the newly formed organization.
Naver explained that this move aims to grow its existing healthcare business into a larger enterprise. The strategy seeks to combine Senacl's expertise in healthcare with Naver's services and technologies to achieve synergistic effects.
Senacl operates 'Oreum Chart,' a cloud-based EMR service targeting clinic-level medical institutions. It supports tasks such as hospital appointment scheduling, patient registration, billing, prescriptions, and patient management. The company also offers an app called 'Cle' that allows individuals to manage their medical and health records in integration with Oreum Chart.
Naver Cloud secured a majority shareholder position by making additional investments in Senacl last November. Naver has previously stated its plan to combine its own cloud and AI technologies with EMR, the core system of medical institutions, to enhance healthcare professionals' operational efficiency and improve patient care experiences.
Lee Hae-jin, Naver Lee Sa-hoe (Chairman), has consistently identified medical AI as a key growth driver. Speaking at the 'Digital & Bio Innovation Forum 2025' held at Seoul National University Hospital in March last year, he said, "Naver is genuinely committed to investing in medical AI." He added, "After careful consideration on how Naver will survive and lead the industry in the AI era, we found a breakthrough in healthcare."
This year, Naver has been consolidating its healthcare research and development capabilities at headquarters. The 'Applied AI' group, which was responsible for developing medical-specific AI models, was transferred from Naver Cloud to the Naver Tech Business division in March. With the launch of the new organization, it is expected that medical AI technologies and Senacl's business foundation will be integrated within a unified structure.
