The three major mobile carriers have strengthened roaming and membership benefits in anticipation of increased overseas travel and leisure time during the Chuseok holiday.
SK Telecom, KT, and LG Uplus announced on the 23rd that they are expanding various roaming and membership benefits for the Chuseok holiday.
First, SKT has increased the data allowance for its 'Family Roaming' service: from 6GB to 8GB, 12GB to 16GB, 24GB to 32GB, and 48GB to 64GB. The Family Roaming service allows up to five family members, including the one family representative subscribed to the 'Baro Plan' for a monthly fee of 3,000 won Chu Ga-ha-myeon (CEO), to share roaming data together.
SKT explained, "We have enabled customers with large families or long travel periods to use more generous data at the same price." SKT is also running a promotion through the end of the year that increases data for 'Baro' plan subscribers without additional fees, and offers an extra 1GB of free data via 'Club T Roaming'.
SKT has also prepared free udon and snacks, as well as discounts on transportation and shopping for customers visiting Japan’s Fukuoka, Tokyo, and Osaka, which are close to Korea. For customers relaxing domestically, the carrier has arranged various membership benefits, including offering CGV movie tickets at 8,500 won. T Membership VIP customers will also see a special campaign offering a 40% discount on 12 types of Paris Baguette Chuseok gift sets.
LG Uplus is also operating the '2026 U+ Roaming In-Flight Wi-Fi Event' through the end of this year and has enabled roaming calls via its AI-powered call app, ixi-O (익시오), for use overseas.
Customers who will be away from home for extended periods due to returning to their hometowns or traveling can utilize smart home services. LG Uplus has also prepared AI and content subscription benefits for customers spending the holiday at home. Until the 30th, LG Uplus offers discounts of up to 5,000 won on AI and content subscription products for first-time users. The carrier also provides a 'U+plus' plugin that allows users to check product and benefit information for the LINE-exclusive plan 'Nugget' available through ChatGPT.
KT will offer free video calls from the 24th to the 27th, covering four days during the Chuseok holiday. Additionally, Genie TV is preparing a movie promotion offering a 5,000 won TV coupon for each movie purchased by customers buying the latest films 'Okae Madam 2', 'The Last Day on Oak Street', and 'Bi-gwang' until the 30th. For customers planning overseas trips, KT will provide a 10,000 won discount at airport lounges throughout September and operate its 'Southeast Asia Budget Roaming' product until the 31st of next month.
