KBS 2TV's 'New Product Launch Bianting Restaurant,' which featured broadcaster Do Kyung-wan's frugal lifestyle, has been subject to a broadcasting review complaint.
According to Sports Chosun on the 29th, complainant A filed a petition through the National E-Petition System that day requesting a review of the episode aired on the 22nd. The purpose was to request a review of whether the broadcast maintained objectivity while dealing with Do Kyung-wan's financial situation.
In the relevant broadcast, Do Kyung-wan revealed his balance, stating, "10,000 won in New Year's money was deducted from the bank, leaving an account balance of 25,479,500 won." He introduced his frugal daily life, such as having his children collect toilet water to flush in order to reduce management fees, and turning off the living room air conditioner in the middle of summer and removing the batteries from the remote control.
The complainant cited reports that Do Kyung-wan and his wife Jang Yoon-jung purchased The Penthouse for approximately 12 billion won in 2024, as well as the fact that Do Kyung-wan purchased an expensive watch through his YouTube channel. They stated there was a need to verify how contradictory information was structured in the broadcast compared to these facts.
The complainant cited Article 14 of the Broadcasting Review Regulations and Article 44, Paragraph 1 of the Broadcasting Act, among others, requesting confirmation of whether KBS had upheld objectivity and public responsibility.
Meanwhile, it is known that Do Kyung-wan and Jang Yoon-jung sold Nine One Hannam in Seoul's Yongsan-gu for approximately 12 billion won in 2024, realizing a capital gain of about 7 billion won. Subsequently, they purchased Aper Han River The Penthouse in the same area for approximately 12 billion won. It is known that no separate mortgage was registered, and the transaction was made entirely with cash, which attracted attention.
