Actress Cha Ye-ryeon (41, real name Park Hyeon-ho) once again denied allegations of school violence and warned of legal action against the spread of false information.
On the 4th, HB Entertainment, Cha Ye-ryeon's agency, issued an official statement saying, "We express deep regret for causing concern to fans who have supported her and the public due to the ongoing controversy surrounding Cha Ye-ryeon on online platforms."
The agency stated, "We have previously conveyed our position that claims regarding Cha Ye-ryeon's past raised online are baseless. However, we take the current situation very seriously, in which unverified claims and speculation raised anonymously continue to spread repeatedly, and criticism is now directed even at Cha Ye-ryeon's family."
It further warned, "We will thoroughly secure relevant materials and respond responsibly after legal review regarding malicious dissemination of false information and personal attacks," adding, "We will take strong measures to prevent further harm caused by the spread of false facts."
The school violence allegations against Cha Ye-ryeon began on the 29th of last month when a post titled "Please stop your activities, female actress born in 1985 who committed school violence" was uploaded to an online community.
The poster claimed that a female actress born in 1985, a graduate of Seoul Junggye Middle School, was a notorious gang leader and perpetrator of school violence during her student days, alleging that she had been subjected to continuous physical abuse and bullying by the actress. In particular, the poster claimed that her eardrum was torn after being slapped in a building near the school and demanded an apology.
Although the post did not explicitly name the actress, netizens identified Cha Ye-ryeon based on her birth year and alma mater. Subsequently, HB Entertainment, Cha Ye-ryeon's agency, dismissed the allegations last month as "baseless."
The original post that raised the school violence allegations has been restricted from viewing since the 2nd of this month due to a temporary measure under Article 44-2 of the Information and Communications Network Act.
Following this, on the 3rd of this month, a post was introduced on the YouTube channel "Baek Eun-young's Golden Time" in which a former caddy who had handled a golf round involving Cha Ye-ryeon and her companions in 2012–2013 claimed that Cha Ye-ryeon had ignored him and behaved rudely at the time, causing further controversy.
Cha Ye-ryeon, who was in the United States due to her schedule during the height of the controversy, is known to have returned to Korea on the 3rd of this month.
