A social studies instructor who suspended her lectures due to health problems just three weeks before the 2027 College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) is facing criticism after appearing on a Netflix variety show.
Criticism has mounted on the website of online education company Etoos since Nov. 8 over Lee Do's abrupt decision to halt her lectures and her subsequent television appearances.
On Oct. 29, Lee announced in a handwritten letter that she would be unable to complete her remaining Korean Geography and World Geography courses for the 2027 CSAT due to health reasons.
She said she had prioritized her lectures over her health out of a desire to provide the best possible lessons, but began experiencing physical warning signs. Following medical advice, she decided to spend the remainder of 2026 focusing on her health for the first time.
Students expressed frustration over the timing of the announcement, which came just three weeks before the crucial exam.
The controversy intensified after Lee attended a press conference for Netflix's variety show "The Devil's Plan: Death Room" on Nov. 5. She reportedly said she had been asking producer Jung Jong-yeon to cast her since last year.
One student also pointed out that Lee appeared on KwakTube's YouTube channel in May and as a guest on a spin-off of Netflix's dating show "Better Late Than Single" Season 2, asking whether she was working as an instructor because she wanted to become a celebrity.
Other students posted comments criticizing her lack of responsibility, with some noting that she had also suspended lectures the previous year.
Lee, who studied geography education at Seoul National University, gained attention as Etoos' youngest-ever CSAT instructor. She previously appeared on Netflix's "Better Late Than Single" and is set to appear in "The Devil's Plan: Death Room," premiering Nov. 10.
