HD Hyundai Construction & Equipment announced on the 15th that it recently conducted a launch ceremony for the generator engine DX77 at its Gunsan campus.
The DX77 is a diesel engine with a displacement of 77L and a maximum output of 3MW (megawatts), making it the largest model in the company's engine lineup. Its maximum output is sufficient to meet the average electricity consumption of over 7,000 households. Following the launch ceremony, the DX77 will undergo full-scale performance and durability verification, with mass production scheduled to begin in 2028.
The DX77 is a high-speed engine that rotates 1,800 times per minute, characterized by fuel efficiency and output at the highest level among engines of its class. Its high output relative to its size allows for reduced installation space, making it advantageous for building modular data centers where equipment can be expanded in stages according to required power generation capacity.
Additionally, high-strength, wear-resistant materials and a high-efficiency cooling system were applied to ensure stable performance even during prolonged high-speed operation. Maintenance convenience was also improved by extending the replacement cycle for filters to 1,000 hours. The company plans to secure customer trust by providing the industry's longest service warranty upon future product release.
It is also accelerating the expansion of its 1-3MW engine lineup. Currently, it is producing the 1MW-class DX22 engine at its Incheon plant, and at the new Gunsan engine plant, which will be completed by the end of this month, it plans to sequentially mass-produce power generation engines starting with the DX37 (1.5MW class) in early next year. The company aims to begin mass production of the DX50 (2MW class) engine by 2029 to establish a 1-3MW lineup.
The company plans to expand its gas engine lineup as well, targeting the North American market where demand for self-generation is increasing due to the spread of artificial intelligence (AI) data centers and delays in power grid connections. The DX77 was designed with consideration for the possibility of expansion into engines that utilize various fuels such as gas and hydrogen.
The company's CEO Moon Jae-young stated, "The DX77 is a crucial product that elevates the competitiveness of our generator engine business to the next level," adding, "We will enhance product completeness through thorough performance and durability verification and secure new growth drivers in the global power generation market."
