As the 6th anniversary of the late Lee Kun-hee, chairman of Samsung Group, approaches, memorial events are being held in succession. It is known that the Samsung family and management, including Lee Jae-yong, chairman of Samsung Electronics, will spend a calm week of remembrance this year as well, honoring the late chairman's spirit of sharing and other values.
According to industry sources on Sunday, Lee, Hong Ra-hee, Honorary Director of the Leeum Museum of Art, Lee Boo-jin Shin Ra-ho-tel (President), Lee So-hyun, President of Samsung C&T, and others are scheduled to attend the 6th anniversary memorial service for the late chairman at the family cemetery in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, on the 23rd of this month. Typically, the memorial service is held on a weekday prior to the actual date of death, the 25th, and is conducted quietly with attendance limited mainly to family members and key executives.
Following the memorial service, Lee and Samsung's executive team are expected to move to the Yongin Samsung Human Resources Development Institute for lunch, as in previous years. It is reported that they will share their awareness of the current situation and direction, given that while Samsung Electronics and others are posting record-high results amid an unprecedented semiconductor boom, uncertainties such as setbacks in finished product businesses and global geopolitical instability are also growing.
Subsequently, Samsung will hold a memorial concert for the late chairman's 6th anniversary at the Yongin Samsung Electronics Talent Development Institute on the afternoon of the 28th. In addition to Lee and management, Samsung employees will also attend. Lee is scheduled to encourage new executives and outstanding employees.
Meanwhile, following the start of the "Lee Kun-hee Collection"'s first overseas exhibition around last year's 5th anniversary, this year marks the beginning of an exhibition in the UK ahead of the 6th anniversary, adding to the meaning of remembrance. The "Lee Kun-hee Collection," which has expanded onto the world stage, was exhibited at the Smithsonian National Museum of Asian Art in the United States from November last year to February this year, and then met with people around the world at the Art Institute of Chicago from March to July.
It is currently on display at the British Museum starting this month. Lee attended a local gala dinner held to commemorate the exhibition and stated, "Founder Lee Byung-chul began collecting art based on the belief that cultural heritage should be cultivated and passed down to future generations, and Lee Kun-hee Seon Dae (Chairman) continued this, collecting works over his lifetime, striving not for ownership but for preservation," adding, "Our family has upheld the principle that art and culture must be preserved and shared across multiple generations."
This special UK exhibition features a total of 100 works selected from the approximately 23,000 pieces of the "Lee Kun-hee Collection" donated by the Samsung family to the state in 2021, including 10 national treasures and 13 cultural properties.
