"We secured and analyzed 119 million ear data points. You can feel a comfortable fit that improves with use."
As the market for open-type earbuds expands, catering to outdoor activities such as running, cycling, and commuting, Samsung Electronics has entered the arena with the 'Galaxy Buds On.' As its first clip-style earbuds, the product consolidates Samsung Electronics' technological prowess to deliver not only superior sound quality but also a comfortable fit and stable correction capabilities.
Lee Myung-hwan, group leader of the Wearable Product Planning Group in Samsung Electronics' MX Business Division, stated at the 'Galaxy Buds On' launch briefing held on the 20th at the Taepyeongro Building in Seoul Sejong University, "As the earbud market undergoes rapid changes and customer needs become more segmented, we introduced the clip-style form factor."
He added, "More people are choosing in-ear types when focusing on music and open-type models for exercise or work." Indeed, according to Samsung Electronics' internal survey, 73% of clip-style earbud users also own in-ear type earbuds.
Differentiation factors from many existing clip-style earbuds include △fit △call quality △and AI-driven Galaxy ecosystem integration experiences. Group Leader Lee said, "If you try them alongside products on the market, you can feel the difference in comfort, and the fit is world-class." He continued, "When using a Galaxy phone with Buds, we provide clear call quality where ambient noise is not heard, and it is our duty to offer Galaxy customers an optimal experience from connecting the earbuds to the phone to music quality."

However, providing a comfortable fit for many users was not easy due to differences in ear shape. To address this, Samsung Electronics secured 119 million ear data points and used AI optimization technology based on 4D computing to evenly distribute the contact area and pressure against the ear. Additionally, shape memory alloy was applied to the bridge so that it conforms to the user's ear shape with continued use.
Nam Hyeon-jeong, a product manager in the Wearable Product Planning Group of the MX Business Division, noted, "Clip-style earbuds have a relatively greater distance from the eardrum, and since the speaker is located outside the ear canal compared to in-ear models, there is sound leakage." She added, "Therefore, we applied a sealed design for the first time in Galaxy Buds. Considering that mid-bass is relatively weak, we equipped 'Twin Boost Speakers' to deliver rich bass."
In addition to an 'Auto Volume' feature that automatically adjusts volume based on the external environment, an 'Intelligent Clear Call' feature was included to transmit clear voices even in noisy environments. The earbuds are equipped with three microphones, a bone conduction-based vibration sensor (VPU), and machine learning-based solutions to separate the user's voice from background noise. Furthermore, left and right distinctions were eliminated to accommodate users who wear only one side while running or get confused about left and right when charging.
It also serves as a strong link connecting the Galaxy AI ecosystem. Users can answer calls with a 'Head Gesture' nod, dismiss alarms by shaking their head side to side, or check messages. Additionally, saying "Hey Google, let's talk live" invokes the AI agent 'Gemini Live' on the phone for conversation, and pressing and holding the touch button on the back of the earbuds activates 'Quick Voice Memo,' allowing users to record ideas or to-do items as they come to mind.
During running or while lifting heavy objects, 'Buds On' can be controlled with voice commands such as "next song," "volume up," and "answer call," enabling easy hands-free functionality using only the earbuds. The 'Galaxy Buds On' will officially launch on the 27th in a single black color, priced at 299,000 won.
