As Apple unveiled its first MacBook Pro equipped with a touchscreen, attention is drawn to the fact that the price of the model with all optional specifications added exceeds 25 million won.
According to Apple's official website on the 29th, the domestic starting prices for the newly revealed "MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display" are 4.79 million won for the 14th-inch model and 5.59 million won for the 16th-inch model.
However, if one maximizes the hardware specifications of the 16th-inch model on Apple's official online store and adds video and music editing programs, the price reaches 25.443 million won. This is an amount sufficient to purchase a mid-sized car.
The product is equipped with the M5 Max chip, featuring an 18-core central processing unit (CPU), a 40-core graphics processing unit (GPU), and a 16-core neural engine. The configuration includes 128GB of unified memory and 16TB of storage, along with the video editing program "Final Cut Pro" and the music production program "Logic Pro."
Storage is what drives up the price the most. Increasing the base 2TB storage to 4TB adds 1.7 million won, while increasing it to 8TB adds 5.1 million won. Selecting the maximum capacity of 16TB results in an additional cost of 11.9 million won.
The cost of memory expansion is also significant. Increasing the base 48GB of unified memory to 64GB adds 680,000 won, while raising it to a maximum of 128GB adds 3.4 million won.
The additional cost for selecting 16TB of storage and 128GB of memory alone totals 15.3 million won. This accounts for approximately 60% of the final price.
However, such high specifications are at a level necessary for professional tasks such as high-resolution video editing or large-scale data processing. If used for general purposes such as document creation or internet searches, there is no need to choose the top-tier specifications.
The new product is a laptop that allows users to operate it by directly touching the screen, a first for Apple's MacBook series. In addition to the existing keyboard and trackpad, users can press or move their fingers on the screen to utilize various functions.
It will be released in two sizes, 14-inch and 16-inch, and is equipped with the new PROLED XDR display. It supports a variable refresh rate of up to 120Hz, and screen brightness and contrast ratio have also been improved.
Apple will begin pre-orders in Korea at 10:00 a.m. on the 30th, with the official launch scheduled for the 6th of next month.
