Actor Song Seung-hwan, who has been diagnosed as Grade 4 visually impaired, was spotted holding a cane.
On the 10th, comedian Lee Sung-mi posted on her Instagram with the message: "We celebrated Hee-eun's birthday again this year!! We've reached an age where we look out for each other's health. Sister!!!! Please stay with us for a long, long time," along with photos.
The photos show Song Seung-hwan, Lee Sung-mi, Choi Yura, and Kim Hye-young gathered together to celebrate Yang Hee-eun's birthday. The four are smiling brightly and looking straight ahead.
Notably, Song Seung-hwan was seen holding a silver cane, drawing attention. It is reported that he has created and uses his own cane equipped with a light, allowing him to check his surroundings using bright illumination after being diagnosed as Grade 4 visually impaired.
Song Seung-hwan announced in 2019 that he received the Grade 4 visually impaired diagnosis due to macular degeneration and retinitis pigmentosa.
In January, during an appearance on MBN's "Kim Ju-ha's Day & Night," he described his vision condition: "It's not that I can't see at all; it's like there's thick fog, so I can't see well. Shapes are visible. This disease is said to be a precursor to night blindness, and in fact, I had night blindness since I was young."
He continued, "I even visited foreign hospitals trying to get treatment, but my condition worsened rapidly over six months. One doctor told me, 'You might go blind within six months,' which made me very anxious. Fortunately, after six months passed, I did not go blind, and the progression of the disease stopped."
He also explained, "If I had been completely unable to see, I might have fallen into despair, but since I can still make out shapes and there are ways to resolve inconveniences, I think I was able to shake it off."
