Travel creator Kwak Tube disclosed that while utilizing a first-class seat costing up to 15 million won, he suffered a 14% loss from stock investments.
On the 7th, a video titled "Review of the Most Expensive First-Class Flight in the World" was uploaded to the YouTube channel 'Kwak Tube'.
Recently, Kwak Tube, who has frequently flown due to filming a long-term travel program, stated, "I've been so tired lately that I really wanted to try a truly good flight," and announced he had booked Etihad Airways' 'The Residence' from Japan to Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The airfare price Kwak Tube revealed was approximately 14.9 million won. He said, "This is the cost for about nine hours of flying," and called it "the ultimate flex (show-off spending)." He emphasized that the payment was made with his own money, not as a sponsorship.
The Residence featured a private bedroom, dedicated bathroom, shower facilities, and other amenities separate from standard seats.
However, Kwak Tube seemed unable to relax easily, constantly bothered by the high airfare price. He remarked, "Since it costs 15 million won for 10 hours, even excluding various services, it's nearly 1 million won per hour," and spent his time watching movies, playing games, and showering.
Especially when he felt sleepy, he said, "I can't sleep. I have to endure. If I fall asleep once, it's a loss of 1 million won," and held back sleep. He added, "That amount keeps coming to mind in my head, so I can't rest comfortably," explaining, "The pressure to keep doing something prevented me from sleeping."
During this process, he also revealed his stock investment status. Kwak Tube said, "I put almost all the money I invested into Hynix. I threw nearly all my money in there. I kept buying water," and showed his SK Hynix investment account. At that time, the screen displayed a return rate of approximately negative 14%.
When asked what he would choose between the 15th-million-won air ticket and additional stock purchases, he said in essence, "If it were me, I wouldn't take the plane; I'd buy water," adding, "If I just bought a little more water here, I'd almost be there."
After arriving in Abu Dhabi, the situation changed. Although Kwak Tube planned to travel to Istanbul using economy class, he was informed that this ticket did not allow access to the transfer lounge.
Kwak Tube said, "I guess I'll have to sleep rough somewhere and continue. I can't spend any more money."
Netizens who watched the video reacted with comments such as "It's funny how your status drops immediately after getting off the plane," "Spending 15 million won only to sleep rough at an airport," and "The sense of futility and loss must be enormous."
