Singer and entrepreneur Kim Jin-pyo (49) revealed the story of mistakenly taking probiotics meant only for his dog as human-grade supplements and consuming them for more than a month.
Kim Jin-pyo shared the incident on his social media on the 8th, explaining that he had been taking various nutritional supplements and medications the day after drinking alcohol to maintain his health.
One day, Kim discovered probiotics on a shelf where he kept his medicines and began taking them without any suspicion. He said, "The taste was exactly the same as the probiotics I used to take," and added that he continued to take the product every day after drinking alcohol.
However, hives of unknown cause soon began appearing all over his body. Symptoms such as redness on areas touched by bag straps or along his sides would occur sporadically but would naturally subside after a few days, so he initially did not pay much attention.
One day, Kim's wife saw him taking probiotics as usual, checked the packaging, and said, "Are you eating this right now?" and "Spit it out immediately."
When Kim asked for an explanation, his wife replied, "It's for dogs." The packaging bore the phrase "For puppies only."
Only then did Kim realize that the probiotics he had been consuming for over a month were actually intended for his dog. He expressed his bewilderment, saying, "Why didn't I ever notice the words 'for puppies only'? I feel utterly ashamed."
Afterward, Kim stopped taking the product and announced that his hives disappeared about ten days later. He added, "I'm sharing this in case someone else might have made the same mistake," even describing his experience as a "clinical trial."
However, no medical causal relationship has been confirmed between the dog-specific probiotics Kim consumed and the onset of his hives. Since pet products are not manufactured for human consumption, they should never be taken by people without proper guidance.
