Musical actor Kim Ho-young revealed that he once cut ties with an acquaintance over the occasion of their wedding.
Recently, a video titled "Money Kita" on the YouTube channel 'KakaoBank' was released under the title "Did I get stop-loss selling after paying 100,000 won as a wedding gift? We'll help you resolve your concerns about wedding and funeral expenses."
In the video, when the topic of wedding gifts came up, Kim Ho-young expressed anger, saying, "There are norms of courtesy and common sense between people. It seems that line is shaken or even disappears when it comes to weddings, in a bad way."
Kim Ho-young called it "an infuriating story" and shared his personal experience.
He said, "I was asked to give a congratulatory speech. If someone is very close, they are indeed a close friend. I naturally intended to give the speech."
He continued, "The acquaintance was the groom. From the moment he announced the wedding, I felt uneasy. He told me about 'studio, dress, makeup' (SDM). Although I have no wedding experience myself, I've heard that some places are expensive. He specifically mentioned one such place and said he wanted to hold it there."
He added, "Then he asked me, 'Can you get a discount as an entertainer?' I felt something was off. Naturally, I refused. I told him I would still give the congratulatory speech."
However, a difficult situation arose when Kim Ho-young's filming schedule was set for the day of the main reception, just two weeks before the acquaintance's wedding.
Kim Ho-young explained, "Several people were filming, but only I couldn't make it at that time. If I could go, the filming would proceed smoothly, so I had no choice but to tell the acquaintance that I probably wouldn't be able to attend and, out of courtesy, send a junior colleague instead. In fact, I was supposed to give the congratulatory gift money to that friend (the junior)."
He continued, "But then the friend said he was disappointed and added, 'Our wedding concept doesn't match the vibe of the junior colleague you introduced.' Then he asked, 'Can you introduce a more famous entertainer instead?' This left me shocked."
He sighed, saying, "I ended my relationship with that person. I've known them for some time. I never thought this person would say something like that."
