Some netizens flooded with malicious comments after actress Son Tae-young revealed that she is raising her two children in the United States without a housekeeper.
Son, who has been staying in New Jersey, U.S., for her children's education, spoke about parenting and household chores on her YouTube channel on the 25th.
Son introduced the pancake served on the dining table as a meal made from a kit. When the production team joked, "It seems like you're not doing housework anymore," she said that while she prepares meals herself on weekdays, each family member eats what they want on weekends, adding, "Moms need to rest on weekends too. The kids are happy about it."
When the production team then asked if there were any households in New Jersey that do not hire a housekeeper, Son replied, "There probably are. I have never used one." Her son, Rook-hee, also shook his head when his mother asked if he had ever used a housekeeper.
Son explained that she has personally handled cleaning, laundry, meal preparation, and even driving her children around for six years. She stated that she needs to rest on weekends in order to take care of the children and do housework again on weekdays, confessing, "Otherwise, it would be too hard to manage."
After the video was released, some netizens left comments such as, "Is not using a housekeeper something to brag about?", "Many parents do that," and "Do you think that is impressive?"
On the other hand, supportive comments also continued, including "Don't worry too much about the malicious comments" and "Please never be upset." Son clicked 'like' on the comments supporting her.
Son married actor Kwon Sang-woo in 2008 and has one son and one daughter.
