Chae Ri-na, a former member of the group Rula, shares the difficulties of caregiving after revealing that both of her parents have received dementia diagnoses.
On the 2nd, an official YouTube channel for Channel A’s ‘Star Health Ranking Number One’ released a preview for the episode airing on the 4th.
In the video, Chae Ri-na confessed, “Both my father and mother are at the stage of progressing into dementia, so it is a very difficult situation.”
Chae Ri-na stated that her mother also received a dementia diagnosis one year ago, following her father who has been diagnosed with dementia and is currently under management. The broadcast is scheduled to reveal Chae Ri-na’s daily life as she cares for both parents at home.
Chae Ri-na’s mother, who was once so skilled in cooking that she ran a bibimbap restaurant in Jeonju, reportedly exhibited abnormal behavior even before her dementia diagnosis. She frequently bought food ingredients she had already purchased, which led to a medical examination and subsequently a dementia diagnosis.
On a day off, Chae Ri-na checked the refrigerator and called out to her mother, “So-young-ssi needs to be scolded.” She then took out five packs of bean sprouts and three heads of radish from the refrigerator.
Chae Ri-na expressed regret, saying, “Last summer, she kept buying watermelons and even made hwachae (fruit punch) to eat.”
Afterward, Chae Ri-na had a video call with her husband, Park Yong-geun, who is working as a coach in a provincial area. Park Yong-geun affectionately urged his mother-in-law, “Our So-young-ssi, please make sure Mother takes her medicine properly.”
It was reported that Chae Ri-na’s mother’s dementia symptoms worsened after the passing of ‘Yeong-soon-i,’ a pet dog who had lived with the family like a member for 12 years.
Chae Ri-na’s mother said, “I had a hard time for a long while after our Yeong-soon-i passed away. That memory doesn’t fade,” evoking sympathy.
