Hyun Bin says filming was tough, but Son Ye-jin jokes that childcare is even tougher

When actor Hyun Bin said that he had felt "tough" due to mental pressure during film shooting, his wife Son Ye-jin took over the conversation by saying, "I had it even harder with childbirth and parenting," eliciting laughter.

The handprint ceremony for the 47th Blue Dragon Film Awards was held at CGV Yongsan I-Park Mall in Seoul on Tuesday. Hyun Bin and Son, who were named winners last year, attended the event.

Hyun Bin shared the burden he experienced while portraying the late independence activist An Jung-geun in the film "Harbin." He recalled that expressing the life and inner world of a real person was not easy, and that emotions welled up after filming the scene where he climbs onto the execution platform, making it difficult.

Following this, when the MC asked, "Did you feel Hyun Bin's tough, agonizing atmosphere from your perspective?" Son answered, "I had just given birth to our child at that time, so I was the one who had it harder..."

Son said, "In fact, Hyun Bin really lost a lot of weight. I know very well how difficult it is to portray a historical figure, but for me to understand my partner's hardship, I was also too... (in a difficult situation).

During the time when we were both struggling, he had a lot of overseas filming and looked tired every time he came home, but I thought I was the one who had it harder."

She then added, "Looking back, it was an opportunity to become a mature actor and a mature parent."

Hyun Bin drew attention by continuously breaking into beaming smiles while listening to Son's remarks.

Son and Hyun Bin, both born in 1982, married in March 2022 and welcomed a son in November of the same year.

The two actors received the Best Actor and Best Actress awards, respectively, at the 46th Blue Dragon Film Awards held last year. Hyun Bin won his first Best Actor award for "Harbin," while Son Ye-jin won her second Best Actress award for "No Other Choice." The couple also secured the Chungjungone Popular Star Award, achieving a double crown side by side.

Hyun Bin and Son have recently been actively working, appearing in the Disney+ original series "Made in Korea Season 2" and the Netflix series "Scandal," respectively.
