Since the release of Disney+ original series “Remarried Empress,” opinions have emerged that the costumes and cinematography feel awkward. Amidst comments comparing the props to those in a reenactment program, attention is drawn to the fact that the dresses worn by lead actress Shin Min-a are known to be high-end products worth tens of millions of won.
Disney+’s “Remarried Empress,” first released on the 3rd, is a romance fantasy epic in which Navie (played by Shin Min-a), the perfect empress of the Dongdae Empire, is notified of a divorce by Emperor Soviash (Joo Ji-hoon), who has fallen for the runaway slave Rasta (Lee Se-young). In response, she accepts the divorce but demands approval to remarry Prince Heinrey (Lee Jong-suk) of the Seowang Kingdom.
The work immediately sparked buzz over the appearances of its lead actors upon release. However, reactions also emerged comparing the lavish palace costumes and cinematography to the reenactment program “Surprise.”
Some netizens expressed dissatisfaction with the props, commenting, “Did the production team of ‘Remarried Empress’ not watch ‘Bridgerton’? The costumes feel cheap,” and “If you’re going to make it, do it properly.”
Amid this, attention was drawn as the brand and price of the dress Shin Min-a wore in the drama were revealed, centered around online communities.
The red dress that Shin Min-a also wore in the official poster is a piece produced by “Choi Jae-hoon Dress,” a dress brand well-known even in the domestic wedding industry. The white dress that emphasized Shin Min-a’s slim waistline is also a product from the same brand. Actual selling prices are known to range from several million won to 10 million won.
Shin Min-a also wore light blue and black dresses from “Jenny Packham,” famous as Jun Ji-hyun’s wedding dress brand. The said dresses are known to be in the 5th million to 6 million won range.

Among the scenes from the drama revealed so far, the most expensive item worn by Shin Min-a is a mint-colored dress and bolero set. It is a product from the Lebanese designer brand “Georges Hobeika” and is currently being sold online for approximately 18 million won. Rental fees for products from this brand at domestic wedding companies are known to reach several million won.
After the actual prices of the dresses were revealed, reactions continued among netizens suggesting that the problem lay not with the costumes themselves, but with the lighting and video correction.
Netizens are reacting with comments such as, “I thought she was wearing a mid-to-low-priced dress, but I was surprised to see the price,” “My disappointment grows even more regarding the video and direction,” “Those who said it looked cheap, come out again,” “Still, I can’t shake the ‘Surprise’ vibe,” and “It has reached a point where filters need to be added to the video.”
Despite the protagonists wearing ultra-luxurious dresses worth tens of millions of won, reviews continue to state that their charm did not come alive in the work.
“Remarried Empress” is released on Disney+ with two episodes every Wednesday, for a total of 10 episodes.
