Gwanak Research Institute, a company providing AI (artificial intelligence)-based financial decision-making solutions, announced on the 2nd that it has secured 300 million won in investment from Seoul National University Technology Holding Company.
Established in 2023, Gwanak Research Institute develops solutions that assist institutional investors in the financial sector with business judgments by leveraging financial data and AI technology. The company provides AI technology applicable to various tasks, including customer retention, debt recovery, and policy fund review, across the banking, card, insurance, and public finance sectors.
Gwanak Research Institute’s decision-making engine connects all information regarding a single customer, not only structured data such as transaction records and credit information, but also unstructured data such as consultation logs and transaction summaries. Furthermore, through time-series prediction models, it suggests how a customer’s status is likely to change in the future, which customers should be prioritized for management, and what responses are required.
Gwanak Research Institute is currently verifying the feasibility of technology application with institutional investors in the financial sector through PoC (Proof of Concept). In addition, the company launched ‘GLAB,’ an investment service for retail investors based on the same AI engine, in July last month, expanding its reach into the B2C (Business-to-Consumer) market.
Gwanak Research Institute plans to utilize this investment to enhance its financial decision-making AI engine and expand its business within the financial sector. The company will also bolster the foundation for introducing services capable of addressing institutional investors’ security, data processing, and network isolation environments, while expanding its development personnel.
Cha In-hwan, [Seoul National University Gi Sul-ji-ju (CEO)], stated, “Gwanak Research Institute is a team gaining market response based on solutions optimized for the adoption of AX (AI Transformation) in the financial sector.” He added, “We expect them to drive innovation in financial decision-making, leveraging their unique capabilities formed by Seoul National University’s core technology, PhDs in statistics, and financial experts with over 20 years of experience.”
Seung Hyeon-chan, CEO of Gwanak Research Institute, said, “The bottleneck in the financial sector lies not in models, but in data.” He explained, “Transforming unstructured data, such as consultation logs that are frequently used in recent analyses, into a usable format is the problem we are solving.” He added, “We will use this investment as an opportunity to enable more institutional investors in the financial sector to adopt AI in their decision-making processes.”
