Lee Jae-yong, Chairman of Samsung Electronics, held a lunch meeting with the Japanese House of Councillors delegation to discuss semiconductor business strategies in the AI era and measures for Korea-Japan cooperation.
According to the electronics industry on the 16th, Lee (Chairman) unexpectedly attended a lunch event between Samsung Electronics executives and the Japanese House of Councillors delegation held at an unspecified location in Seoul on the 14th. Kim Won-kyung, President of Samsung Electronics' Global Public Affairs (GPA) Office, was also present at the meeting.
On the Japanese side, Hiraki Daisaku, Komeito House of Councillors National Assembly Countermeasures Committee Chairman; Fukuyama Tetsuro, Deputy Chairman of the House of Councillors; Kawai Takanoori, Secretary-General of the Democratic Party of Japan's House of Councillors; Umemura Mizuho, Deputy Secretary-General of the Constitutional Democratic Party's House of Councillors; and Koichi Mizushima, Japanese Ambassador to Korea, attended.
It was reported that both sides extensively discussed the outlook for the semiconductor industry driven by AI market expansion, Samsung Electronics' corporate-wide strategy, areas of cooperation between the two countries, and plans for talent development and acquisition.
Hiraki, who attended the lunch meeting, stated, "I visited Korea as part of the House of Councillors Deputy Chairman's delegation," adding, "We exchanged views with university professors well-versed in Korea-Japan relations, former Japanese ambassadors to Korea, Vice Chairmen of the Korean National Assembly, and business leaders."
He continued, "We discussed the outlook for the semiconductor industry thriving due to AI, future corporate strategies, areas of cooperation with Japan, and plans for talent development and acquisition. Although Lee Jae-yong was not originally scheduled to attend the lunch meeting with Samsung Electronics executives, he made a surprise appearance." He further added, "In particular, Lee (Chairman) answered questions posed from a 'politician's perspective' seriously and diligently."
