Hyundai Mobis will sell its automotive lamp business division to French auto parts company OP Mobility.
On the 30th, Hyundai Mobis disclosed that it has signed a definitive contract for the sale of the lamp business and a share purchase agreement (SPA) with OP Mobility. The transaction will proceed by spinning off the lamp business into a newly established entity, "Hyundai Mobis Lamp Co., Ltd. (tentative name)," and then transferring 100% of the new entity's shares to OP Mobility. The new entity will be an unlisted company.
The spin-off date is scheduled for April 1, 2027. Employment and related rights and obligations of personnel classified as successors among the business divisions subject to the spin-off will be transferred to the newly established entity. Once the spin-off is completed, the sale process to OP Mobility is also expected to conclude.
This sale is a transaction that aligns with Hyundai Mobis's restructuring of its business portfolio and OP Mobility's expansion of its lighting business. Hyundai Mobis is focusing its capabilities on future and high-value-added components such as electrification and autonomous driving, while OP Mobility aims to broaden its customer base and operating regions and achieve economies of scale by incorporating the lamp business.
A Hyundai Mobis official stated, "This decision was made to strengthen business expertise and external competitiveness through independent management of the lamp business division, while simultaneously enhancing the competitiveness of Hyundai Mobis's new growth drivers and core businesses."
