Due to high inflation, demand for cost-effective gifts has increased for this year's Chuseok holiday. Sales of 50,000 to 100,000 won gift sets at large supermarkets have surged significantly.
According to an analysis by E-Mart on pre-order performance for Chuseok gift sets from last month's 6th through this month's 13th, total sales increased by 10.3% compared to the same period last year. During the same period, Trader's increased pre-order sales by 25.6%, and E-Mart Everyday saw a 5.5% increase in pre-order sales. Sales from bulk purchases of 100 or more units at once rose by 17% compared to the same period last year.
By price range, gift sets priced between 50,000 and 100,000 won saw a 21.9% increase in sales year-on-year, recording the highest growth rate. Sales growth for products under 50,000 won was recorded at 3.5%. Regarding this, E-Mart explained, "There has been continued demand for products with good value at reasonable prices."
In the fruit category, practical items priced between 30,000 and 50,000 won offering a 30% discount were popular. Sales of 'Sugar-graded apples (3.3kg, 12 pieces)' increased by 45.5% year-on-year. In the livestock category, cost-effective pork gift sets saw sales rise by 58.9% compared to last year. Canned food gift sets, which are in high demand for holiday gifts, grew by 15.5%, while wine and whiskey gift sets increased by 19.8% and 28.2%, respectively.
E-Mart will conduct the main sales of Chuseok gift sets from the 17th to the 24th. During this period, customers who purchase gift sets with an event card will receive a Shinsegae gift certificate worth up to 2.5 million won depending on the amount spent. E-Mart will also introduce new products alongside the popular gift sets from the pre-order period during the main sales period. Preparations include pear sets in the 30,000 won range, Hanwoo beef sets in the 100,000 won range, abalone and dried pollack sets priced under 100,000 won, and wine gift sets at 50,000 won.
Hwang Woon-ki, head of E-Mart's Product Division, stated, "We focused on reducing customers' price burden for holiday gifts while expanding their choices."
Lotte Mart also saw pre-order sales increase by 14.9% from last month's 6th through this month's 14th compared to the same period last year. By price range, cost-effective sets under 50,000 won increased by 33%, and fresh sets in the 100,000 won range increased by 16%. The company analyzed that demand concentrated on cost-effective products amid high inflation and high-quality fresh food options.
Lotte Mart will conduct main sales of Chuseok gift sets at all stores from the 17th to the 24th. Reflecting pre-order performance, the total number of set items and the number of cost-effective sets under 50,000 won were increased by 10% and 20%, respectively, compared to last year.
The store will offer apple and pear sets in the 30,000 won range, premium Galbi sets in the 100,000 won range, Jeju silver pomfret sets in the 160,000 won range, and a premium sashimi omakase set priced at 99,000 won. Customers will receive discounts of up to 30% depending on the set type when paying with an event card. Depending on the purchase amount, customers can receive gift certificates worth up to 500,000 won or enjoy immediate discounts.
