Hana Securities announced on the 1st that it has issued $300 million worth of U.S. dollar-denominated foreign-currency new capital securities, becoming the first domestic securities firm to do so.
Issued with a "30NC5 structure," the securities have a maturity of 30 years, and a call option can be exercised after five years from issuance. The company received a "BBB" credit rating from global credit rating agency S&P. During the demand indication process, approximately 120 institutional investors worldwide participated, resulting in orders totaling $1.7 billion, roughly six times the offering amount. The coupon rate was finalized at 6.5%, which is 30 basis points (1bp = 0.01 percentage point) lower than the initial indicative rate, calculated by adding a 169-basis-point spread to the U.S. five-year Treasury yield (base rate).
Since its first overseas offering of Korean bonds in 2024, Hana Securities has consistently achieved results in the Korean bond market, demonstrating stable funding capabilities. Through this issuance, the company is also solidifying its position as a regular foreign-currency issuer by expanding investor communication channels and conducting fundraising using various product categories.
In particular, moving beyond foreign-currency financing centered on existing dollar bonds, Hana Securities secured resources recognized as capital, thereby strengthening capital adequacy and enhancing business capacity for future growth drivers. The company plans to utilize the secured funds for expanding future growth businesses such as global investment banking, corporate finance, and venture capital supply, as well as productive finance.
Kim Jung-hoon, head of Hana Securities' FICC division, stated, "Although it was an issuance environment where investor demand could be dispersed due to volatility in the global market, we secured investment demand from major global investors prior to issuance and successfully completed the deal." He added, "As we have once again solidified our position by becoming the first domestic securities firm to issue foreign-currency new capital securities, we will strengthen long-term relationships with global investors and continuously enhance our capital-raising competitiveness."
Meanwhile, Hana Securities also successfully issued $300 million worth of dollar bonds last year, marking the first foreign-currency issuance by a domestic securities firm during the Middle East crisis. At that time, the company received an "A-" credit rating from S&P, and the offering was highly successful with orders exceeding 11 times the target amount.
