Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST) is partnering with Daegu Metropolitan City to establish a "Daegu Deep Tech Startup Hub."
On the 8th, DGIST announced that it was selected for the Ministry of SMEs and Startups' "Regional Innovation Startup Activation Support Project" and will create a deep tech startup base in Dongdaegu Venture Valley by combining high-performance artificial intelligence (AI) computing infrastructure with startup spaces.
The startup hub will be located at the Daegu Content Center within Dongdaegu Venture Valley. Its core purpose is to enable early-stage deep tech companies to jointly access high-performance computing resources, specialized equipment, and workspaces that are difficult to secure individually.
The hub will include: △startup spaces for deep tech companies; △coworking, meeting, and investor relations (IR) spaces; △AI computing infrastructure based on graphics processing units (GPUs); and △equipment for analysis, simulation, and validation support. DGIST expects that this initiative will help companies reduce costs and time required for technology development while enhancing their commercialization competitiveness.
A total of 3.5 billion won is allocated to the project, comprising 2.45 billion won from national funds and 1.05 billion won from local funds. DGIST plans to begin basic and detailed design work in 2026, complete space remodeling and equipment installation by 2027, recruit and select companies, and commence full-scale operations thereafter.
DGIST intends to establish a support system that organically connects technology development, validation, and commercialization by collaborating with Daegu City and local startup support institutional investors, leveraging the university's research and technological capabilities as well as its experience in startup support. companies will be provided with access to research infrastructure, technical support, and commercialization linkages.
Kwon Oh-sang, Director of DGIST Innovation Startup Center, stated, "For deep tech companies to grow, it is crucial not only to have specialized infrastructure for technology development but also to establish a systematic support system that connects this infrastructure with validation and commercialization." He added, "We will create an environment where companies can timely access the necessary infrastructure and support, thereby fostering the substantial growth of promising local enterprises."
