Socar announced on the 15th that it is launching a beta service called "Now Delivery," which delivers vehicles to customers' desired locations within one hour of being requested anywhere in Seoul. The company will simultaneously operate one-way fare discounts and a nighttime flat-rate plan to target weekday travel demand, including commuting and school drop-offs and pick-ups.
With Now Delivery, users select the service on the Socar app and choose a vehicle based on their current location, after which the vehicle is delivered to that location. Previously, reservations for the standard delivery service required at least two hours' notice, while the premium Black Label service required reservations made 2 hours and 40 minutes in advance.
If dispatch is not confirmed within five minutes of selecting a vehicle, the reservation is automatically canceled without a fee. If delivery is delayed due to traffic controls or other factors, credits usable within the app are issued according to the level of delay, and the vehicle return time is automatically extended.
The rental fee for the "Commuting" product, which allows use from 6 p.m. on weekdays until 10 a.m. the following day, will be maintained at 15,900 won. This product allows users to rent a vehicle on their way home from work and continue using it until their commute to work the next day.
If a vehicle is used one-way for more than four hours, the one-way fee, which is charged separately from the rental fee, will be discounted by 50%. The company explained that this addresses one-directional travel demand, such as commuting, as users can return the vehicle near their destination without needing to go back to the starting point.
Socar also plans to provide coupons offering a 65% discount on rental fees if the Seoul city bus strike begins with the first service on the 16th. The coupons are set to be usable for renting compact or smaller vehicles for at least 30 minutes, up to a maximum of 16 hours. Specific conditions, such as applicable areas and vehicle types, will be adjusted according to the situation of the strike and vehicle supply conditions.
Andong-hwa, Head of Socar's Car Sharing Division, said, "We plan to continuously enhance convenience so that car sharing can naturally become established not only for travel or long-distance weekend trips but also for everyday movements such as commuting."
